General Dance Education
Can complete beginners join?
Yes. At Big Dance Family, we have groups specifically designed for beginners. If you have never danced before, fundamental steps, rhythm exercises, and body awareness are taught in a clear and approachable way. The goal is for every student to feel comfortable and start dancing with confidence.
Is dance training just a hobby?
Dance can start as a hobby, but with the right guidance it becomes a powerful path for developing discipline, self-confidence, body awareness, social skills, and stage presence. At Big Dance Family, we see dance not merely as learning steps, but as an educational journey through which students express themselves more fully.
Kids Dance Groups
At what age can children start?
We welcome children from the age of 5 into our dance groups. Groups are organised according to age, level, physical development, and any previous training experience the student may have.
How are age ranges determined in kids groups?
Our children's groups are broadly organised into three categories: ages 5–8, 9–12, and 13–18. However, placement is not based on age alone — the child's level, sense of rhythm, movement ability, attention span, and previous training experience are all considered.
How do you decide which group suits my child?
The right group for your child is determined by their age, level, movement ability, sense of rhythm, and previous training background. Children who have prior experience in ballet, gymnastics, sport, or music often adapt to dance training more quickly. That background provides an advantage in balance, coordination, discipline, rhythm, and body awareness.
Can children with no prior training join?
Yes. Children without prior experience in ballet, gymnastics, sport, or music can join beginner groups suited to their level. The training programme is planned according to each child's development and they can be guided to the appropriate level over time.
Benefits of Dance Education for Children
What does dance training give my child?
One of the most important benefits of dance training is discipline. A child learns to attend classes regularly, follow assigned exercises, move as part of a team, and work toward goals. Over time, students develop rhythm, balance, coordination, focus, stage presence, team harmony, and a sense of responsibility.
Does dance training contribute to school life?
Yes, dance training can contribute to a child's academic life in many ways. Children who train regularly develop disciplined work habits, focused attention, the ability to express themselves in front of an audience, a sense of responsibility, and teamwork skills.
What does becoming a licensed athlete and competing give a child?
Becoming a licensed athlete and competing gives a child much more than dance skill. It also builds goal-setting ability, consistent work habits, discipline, stage experience, self-confidence, and a competitive mindset. Students who participate in competitions and events in Turkey build a documented sporting history.
Can dance training be an advantage in school or scholarship applications?
When dance training is consistent and well-documented, it can create a strong social, athletic, and artistic background that may support school and scholarship applications. Competition participation, licensed athlete status, stage experience, teamwork, and recognised achievements can serve as supportive references. No scholarship guarantee is given, but this background can meaningfully strengthen a student's profile.
Is a dance background valuable for applications abroad?
Many schools, universities, and institutions abroad look beyond academic performance and value a student's social, athletic, artistic, and cultural development. A student with a dance background can present a strong profile in terms of disciplined work, self-confidence, stage experience, teamwork, and self-expression.
Dance for Adults
Am I too old to start dancing?
Not at all. It is never too late to start dancing. Dance can be planned at different levels for children, young people, adults, and seniors alike. Whatever your starting age, the right training can build body awareness, rhythm, posture, technique, and performance ability.
Can adults start professional dance training?
Yes. An adult who begins dancing can absolutely take part in a professional training process. Professional development is not exclusive to those who started as children. A student's goal may be social dance, stage performance, a show group, or competition.
Can I join if I don't have a partner?
Yes. A partner is not required to join social dance groups. Pairing and partner rotation are organised systematically in class. This way, students learn to dance with different people and adapt naturally to the social dance environment.
Competition and Professional Training
Do you have to start as a child to compete?
No, it is not required. Starting dance as a child can be an advantage, but someone with competition goals does not necessarily need to have started in childhood. People who begin dancing at 20, 25, 30, or even later can develop their technique through consistent, professional training and prepare for stage and competition.
From what age can I join competition groups?
There is no single age limit for joining competition groups. Dance competitions are organised by age category, offering opportunities from children to adults. Categories generally include mini, star, junior, adult, and senior age groups.
How do competition age categories progress?
Competitions are generally divided by age group. Children's age groups typically include mini, star, and junior categories, while adult and senior categories are available for older dancers. This system allows dancers of all ages to compete within their own appropriate age and level group.
Wedding Dance and Special Concept Shows
Is wedding dance only waltz?

Do you have experience in wedding dance?
Yes. Big Dance Family founder İsmail Sağlam began offering wedding dance training in 2003, establishing himself as one of the early figures in this field in Turkey. Our wedding dance work has attracted national media attention and has added a professional touch to the special days of many couples.
Do you prepare Zeybek performances?
Yes. We create custom Zeybek performances for weddings and special occasions. Zeybek choreographies can be planned with the bride and groom, the groom's friends group, family members, or a dedicated stage team.
Can a group of dancers be organised to perform alongside the bride and groom?
Yes. For couples who wish, a group of dancers can be organised to perform alongside the bride and groom. These groups are prepared according to the wedding concept, music, and stage plan.
How many lessons does a wedding dance require?
The number of lessons depends on the couple's dance level, the chosen music, the complexity of the desired choreography, and how much time remains before the wedding. At the first meeting, the couple's goals, wedding date, and music are discussed to create the most suitable lesson plan.
Can couples who have never danced prepare a wedding dance?
Yes. Couples who have never danced can absolutely prepare a wedding dance. Lessons are planned according to the couple's level and begin from the basics. The aim is to ensure the couple looks comfortable, natural, and confident on stage.
Do you work only with the bride and groom?
No. Our special occasion performances are not limited to the bride and groom. Choreography and stage work can also be prepared for circumcision celebrations, graduations, birthday parties, family surprises, father-daughter performances, and special events.
Can a special performance be prepared for a circumcision celebration or custom concept show?
Yes. Special performances can be prepared for circumcision celebrations, tailored to the child's age, personality, music, and event concept. The child can perform alone, with family members, or with a dedicated dance group.
Can a dance performance be prepared for a graduation or special occasion?
Yes. Custom dance performances can be prepared for graduations, birthdays, school events, family celebrations, or special occasions. Father-daughter performances, children's stage shows, graduation choreographies, and concept-specific shows can all be arranged.
Performance and Show Groups
Will I earn money right away by joining a show group?
No. The primary purpose of our show groups is not immediate income — it is to prepare students for the stage and performance discipline. Training in these groups focuses on learning choreography, moving in sync with the group, stage presence, following the music, rehearsal discipline, teamwork, and performance awareness.
What is the purpose of show groups?
The purpose of show groups is to increase students' stage experience and prepare them for performance environments. Being part of a show group requires more than just dancing. Students must be able to rehearse consistently, follow choreography, maintain team harmony, and fulfil their assigned responsibilities.
Is it possible to perform in professional shows?
Yes, it is possible. However, this requires completing a defined training process, reaching a stage-ready level, and adapting well to team work. For students who are considered suitable, professional shows, events, and stage projects can be planned through separate agreements.
Does everyone in the show group perform on stage?
Every student can participate in the training process; however, to take part in professional performances and events, level, consistency, discipline, team compatibility, and stage performance are all evaluated. Students are assessed throughout the process for professional stage work.
Are show groups training or a job opportunity?
Show groups are primarily an educational process. They are created to prepare students for the stage, give them performance experience, and teach them professional working habits. After the training process, professional show and event opportunities may be considered for students who reach the appropriate level.

What can be covered in private lessons?
